Penzance AFC Reserves look to take their fine form pre-season to Troon on Saturday

The 2019/20 season officially gets underway this Saturday (10th August) with their first Trelawny League game away to Troon Reserves at Grouter Park!

With a great pre-season with plenty of new and old faces, the Reserves saw 20+ players show up to training and used there training sessions to get results on the pitch.

Their first pre-season game, Penzance faced Troon. Finding themselves 2-0 down, new boy Adam Hopkins got one back and then saw Jacob Paull score his first for the club to make it 2-2. Reece Evans and Ryan Weeks found themselves netting one each to make it 4-2, before Troon pulled one back to see the full-time whistle go at 4-3.

Reserves then faced Newlyn Lions where the outcome did not warrant the result, losing 3-2 with Sam Owen and Ben Bailey the scorers. The same story happened when playing Illogan, losing 3-2 but a creditable 3-2 as Illogan are a couple leagues above! Ryan Weeks hammering home two!

They then played Newlyn Non-Athletic, winning 2-1 and it was Ryan Weeks again, scoring two goals!

The fifth and final pre-season game saw Reserves taking on Gwinear, who are in the Trelwany Championship. It was one of the best performances seen by this young, hungry squad as they went on to win 3-0. Luke Carroll, Ryan Weeks and Jacob Paull scoring the goals. Nigel O'Connor stated: 'It was a great performance from the whole team, the kind of performance you would like to bottle and replicate in every way!'

The Reserves have had many new faces join and have had many stay. The team are gelling together brilliantly and we at Penzance AFC cannot wait to see how the season pans out for them and we can only look forward to what is going to happen!

Onto Saturday and the best of luck boys!

Come On You Magpies!
