Lights out at the Van Elle

Mark Barker26 Aug 2020 - 22:30

Jay Cooper scores a thunderbolt for Pinxton to put them 2 - 0 up before floodlight failure after 65 mins.

Pinxton made 3 changes to the starting XI against Shirebrook Town that beat Belper United last time out.
Back in came Jay Cooper and Dale Stewart, and Harvey Ford found himself back in goal.
It was a stalemate of a first half with Pinxton perhaps shading the half, having the better of the opportunities in front of goal which where squandered, and relinquishing possession far too easily in patches which meant for a lot of ball chasing for large parts of the half with the East Midlands Counties side (Step 6)tidy in possession, but lacking that killer touch in the final third.
Pinxton should have been ahead after 15 mins with Jay Cooper blazing the ball over the bar from a tight angle on the volley - smashing the ball closer to Selston than in the back of the net.
Two further chances where gifted to Pinxton with some good play resulting in both Joe Fox and Brad Foley finding themselves in good positions only to shoot tamely at the keeper.
Shirebrook did have a good opportunity close to the half-time mark as the ball was slid down the channel allowing the away team striker to get his shot off which went just passed the post.
0 - 0 at halftime.
Pinxton made 4 changes at halftime as they set about improving from the first half showing.
It didn’t take long as Daniel Minto closed down the Shirebrook centre half, robbed him of the ball and charged down the left hand channel to cross the ball in the box. The ball fell kindly to Joe Fox, who at the drop of a shoulder and the turn on a sixpence sent 3 Shirebrook defenders to the local chippy allowing him all the time in the world to slot the ball home. 1 - 0 Pinxton.
1 soon became 2 as Pinxton with their tails up started pressing higher up the pitch.
The ball fell at the feet of Jay Cooper who found himself in acres of space some 25yrds out from the Shirebrook goal, let a rocket loose from his right boot which fizzed like a tracer into the goal giving the Shirebrook keeper no chance. 2 - 0 Pinxton.
No sooner as Pinxton had made their 5th change of the match after 65 minutes, the floodlights decided to impinge on the match and take centre stage. With the groundsman working frantically in vain to get them back on, it was decided by the by the match officials to call time on the game.
Our apologies and thanks go out to Shirebook Town FC for 2/3rds of the fixture completed, and best of luck for the season ahead.
