Pinxton FC marched on in the league after a comfortable 4-1 win against Rowsley’86 FC at the Van Elle Arena in what was perceived to be their toughest test to date this season.
Pinxton found themselves going 1 up in the first minute as Jay Cooper capitalised on some poor defending after a free kick into the box wasn’t dealt with. Cooper calmly shifted the ball into his right foot and slotted home from 8yrds. 1-0 Pinxton.
One soon became two as some good work down the left channel by Tom Ellis and Tom Lewis set up Jay Cooper to smash home his second of the game after 9 minutes. 2-0 Pinxton.
With 20 minutes approaching Tom Lewis had the opportunity to put the game to bed finding himself one on one on the angle only to see his effort saved by the Rowsley keeper.
This proved a pivotal save as Rowsley hit Pinxton on the counterattack and won what seemed a very soft penalty for a push in the back on the advancing Rowsley attacking midfielder.
The Rowsley captain Roome despatched the penalty to halve the deficit.. 2-1 Pinxton.
Over the course of the season, chances on goal have come seemingly at ease for Pinxton, this game being no exception as before the half had finished, Cooper having a further two chances to extend Pinxtons lead, one effort crashed onto the bar and the other saw a last ditch challenge deny Cooper a deserved hat-trick, along with Tom Lewis pulling an effort wide from the edge of the box.
There was a couple of moments before the half came to a close which Rowsley could of took advantage of, but Binks in the Pinxton goal and the defence stood tall to keep hold of the lead. 2-1 Pinxton halftime.
The second half belonged solely to Pinxton.. Lewis and Cooper continued to terrorise the Rowsley defence, Joel Smith and Ash Dhindsa providing the grit and graft in the centre of midfield, Charlesworth and Deakin adding steel to the centre of defence.
Chances came and went for Pinxton, another effort hitting the upright, numerous corners and free kicks allowing balls into the box but, Pinxton eventually scored their third goal after 80 minutes but it came with some debate. Tom Lewis cooly slotting then all past the onrushing keeper with the outside of his right boot.
When the ball was played through by Cooper, it was clear to all apart from the referees assistant that Lewis had ran from the behind the Rowsley right back to score Pinxtons third of the afternoon. The flag was up for offside only for the referee to overrule and award the goal. 3-1 Pinxton
On the 88th minute, Lewis had his second of the game after good work from Daniel Minto.
He outpaced the Rowsley defence down the right hand side, squared the ball to Lewis who composed himself, rounded the keeper and defender in one move and placed the ball high into the goal. 4-1 Pinxton..
It was a good showing for Pinxton who took full advantage of the game being switched from Rowsley in the AM to be played at the Van Elle.
Credit to Rowsley for wanting to get the game played and agreeing to travel to the Van Elle Arena.
A special mention to Ben Burbanks, a man of the match performance at right back for Pinxton. Energy, grit, determination was shown throughout the 90 minutes. His addition to the squad has come at a good time and firmly took hold of an opportunity given to him today.
