A story of missed chances and conceding goals at crucial times dominated this game. Similar to their previous opening games, Marjon started bright and began to probe the St Dennis back line through penetrating passes in behind. The home side opened the scoring on 23 minutes with what proved to be an excellent team move. Sam McGowan found a pass into front man Sam Logan who linked with Jake Taylor-Lewis. The latter crossed for Morgan Parsonage to volley home at the far post to give the home side a much deserved lead. This sparked St Dennis into life and they began to have a spell of possession but could not break the stubborn Marjon back line. The equaliser came on 32 minutes when a ball from a corner was cleared to the edge of the area only for it to be smashed home from 15 yards. The second goal came on 39 minutes from what seemed a long and hopeful diagonal ball into the home sides box from the halfway line which was duly dispatched at the back post from the away sides striker. The final action of the half came when a through ball over the defence put Sam Logan through on goal only for the striker to fluff his lines. The resulting corner was the signal for the half time whistle.
The second half brought more home side pressure and chances that weren’t converted. Sam Logan had a half chance which was well saved by the goal keeper before a period of more possession followed with little chances of note. The third goal came from St Dennis when a ball down the side was cut back for their right back to cross superbly to the back post for the away sides striker to head home. Marjon had a huge penalty shout turned down on 65 minutes when Sam Logan seemed to be wrestled to the ground but the ref, with his whistle to his mouth gave nothing. Marjon pushed and pushed for an equaliser and Liam Donovan had his snap shot saved by the goal keeper before Marjon had another valid penalty claim waved away for what seemed a blatant handball. The final 15 minutes finished with frustration for the home side, but fair credit to the St Dennis side who took their chances and came away from the campus with all 3 points on another evening which promised so much for Plymouth Marjon.
