Town delivered a statement performance yesterday afternoon, with a dominant 4–1 win – made all the more impressive after being reduced to 10 men early in the match.

Determined to bounce back after last week’s disappointment, Town came flying out the blocks from the first whistle. The opener came through Johden De Meyer, who was quickest to react after a free kick from Jorge Crofts was parried into his path – pushing it past the keeper to give the Seasiders a deserved lead.

The second goal came from a brilliantly worked team move, ending with Leon Rayner scoring a superb diving bullet header to double our lead.

Shortly after the second goal, Town were reduced to 10 men when Evan Jones was shown a straight red card.

The visitors did pull one back when they were awarded a penalty.

Then came the moment of the match. Jorge Crofts produced a goal worthy of any highlight reel – showing sublime control to keep the ball in play near the touchline, before running the length of the half and smashing the ball into the top of the net from a tight angle. A truly sensational solo effort.

The fourth came from the penalty spot after Finn Jones was brought down in the box. Joycey showed great composure to tuck it away at the second time of asking, after being made to retake the spot-kick.

There was a sour note in the afternoon with Leo Roberts suffering a broken arm during the match – everyone at the club wishes him a speedy and full recovery.

A strong response from the Seasiders and the perfect momentum builder heading into Wednesday night’s crucial W John Owen Cup semi-final – where we will once again face FC Cwmaman. If today’s performance is anything to go by, it promises to be another thrilling encounter.
