In 2006 we decided to welcome ladies as members and Prittlewell Bowls Club is now a mixed club and welcomes both men and women to what we consider to be some of the best facilities in the borough, if not the county.

The club was formed in 1928 as a men's bowling club so we celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2018.

The club has undergone many changes and, I believe, none more dramatic than those
of the past few years. Our development plan has enabled the club to move forward in various ways:
* Our membership has risen to nearly one hundred members -
a 150% rise since 2004.
* The re-organisation of our club has seen the introduction of
Social and Welfare Committees.
* We consulted our membership as to clothing and image, and
there was an overwhelming response to change the old dress
code and introduce a new modern playing strip.
We can offer relaxed social bowls to the inexperienced or non-competitive members,
or competitive leagues and cup competitions to the more experienced and dedicated bowler.

Our clubhouse has a good social side, and during the winter months we have 2 excellent short mats for indoor bowling as well as table tennis, whist drives and social occasions.

In May 2001, our clubhouse was destroyed by fire after an arson attack.

During the three years we were without a clubhouse, we operated out of a single
porta-cabin with the very minimum of facilities - a single toilet, a table, a couple of benches and a kettle.

With the uncertainty of ever getting a new pavilion, coupled with the poor facilities, we lost several members to other clubs and were unattractive to new members. However, with dogged determination, commitment and enthusiasm, Prittlewell Bowls Club was triumphant in obtaining a new clubhouse which opened in May 2004.
The club has undergone many changes and we believe none more dramatic than those of the past few years. With the loyal members who had remained, the committee set out to move the club forward, improve facilities for all, recruit new members and promote the game of bowls.

In 2006 we welcomed ladies and now have many lady members. The strength of our lady members has allowed us to be one of the very first truly mixed clubs in the area.

We are not split in to two sections. Following changes to our constitution and club rules we have one committee and both our club captain and club president alternate each year between a lady and a gentlemen.

The responsibility of the Social and Welfare Committee is to raise funds and provide social activities throughout the year. To view our social calendar listing recent and future events please go to Special Events.

Our Welfare Officers are there to look after the well-being of our members and give support where necessary.
