A gloroious sunny morning greeted us at Freelands this week and with it came the players - turning out in numbers once more.

As we are nearing the end of the season, the coaches decided to train some of our players with the U7's this week to give them a taste of what life will be like next year! Seven of our blue team were taken up for the entire session - thanks to Gavin Manger for arranging this.

The rest of the players enjoyed a new extended warm up routine, including Lifeboats, Corners and Simon Says. Warm up over we split into our groups with all teams trying a new drill aimed at improving concentration, listening, attacking space and defending. The game involves the coach shouting out two numbers which releases two players with corresponding numbers to compete for the ball. The first to the ball becomes the attacker and the second becomes the defender. All children took to this simple game (as did the coaches!) and as they improved, more players were sent out so that we could encourage support running and passing.

Extended match play was achieved in all groups - with great progress being made across all players. Thomas Wills in particular stood out this week. Having been made captain of the yellow team, he listened attentively and played exceptionally well scoring two tries. Polly Rogers also played exceptionally well.

Due to trophy damage sustained last week(!), we were only able to award two trophies this week which made the job of selection that much harder - Thomas Wills and Emma Blackburn were well deserved recipients. Well done both of you.

Once again, Harvey-Ray Catton Strugnell was outstanding in attacking play, Edward Tusler has made massive improvements in all aspects of play, particularly his passing and spatial awareness. Ben Saunders, Brent Fforde, Jago Stokes, Sacha James and Fergus Hammond all played exceptionally well and competed in all aspects

Well done to everyone - a great session and a real sense of improvement across the whole squad.

We are looking forward to next week - when we hope to be able to announce an end of season tournament for the U6's on April 22nd. Watch this space for more information!
