A single Rico Sobers goal on 65 minutes was enough to secure all three points for the miners in a tight game at Cheddar.
The heavy pitch made it difficult to play the ball on the ground with any certainty or accuracy and both sides resorted to long passes in an attempt to put some pressure on their opponents.
Chances were few and far apart in the first half but on the half hour a Jack Metcalf 25 yard goal bound drive brought a theatrical save from Tom Creed in the home goal and following the clearance of the resulting corner Adam Wright's delightful lob at the other end found the crossbar with Jack Scrivens struggling to get back into a position to save.
With both defences on top the half time break arrived with no goals on the board and both sets of supporters headed for their 'Bovril' and cheese roll hoping for better to come!
The second period started with the visitors in a more attacking mood and both James Rustell and Sam Gregory shot tamely at Bennett after being presented with opportunities inside the penalty area but the opening goal wasn't long in coming. Metcalf won the ball in midfield and passed to Jack Biddescombe who delivered the ball dangerously into the six yard box where the home defenders did well to block Gregory's first effort but the ball fell to Sobers who cleverly sidestepped two defenders to smash the ball into the net.
The lead could have been doubled ten minutes later but a great double save by Creed, first from Sobers and then George Walker Wiltshire kept his side within touching distance.
The strength sapping nature of the pitch meant that the Cheddar side were struggling to up the tempo of the game which they clearly needed to do if they were going to get something from the match and even when they did get into a threatening position they found the visiting defence in an uncompromising mood. With the game moving into its closing stages Cheddar were forced into shooting from distance in an attempt to find a goal but despite a couple of late corners their efforts didn't really hurt the visitors and Radstock saw the game out without too much trouble.
Three points well won and another step on the road to promotion following a hard working and determined performance from the Radstock Town players made all the more creditworthy because of their strength draining midweek efforts against Yeovil Town in the Somerset Premier Cup.
