Ransomes opened their pre-season campaign with an enthralling game against Bramford Road Old Boys which they eventually won by 4-3. Ransomes looked comfortable throughout the game but BROB were a determined outfit and battled gamely as they matched Ransomes during the opening half. Somewhat unexpectedly they took a 25th minute lead but before half time Ransomes had levelled the match through skipper Courtney David who headed home unchallenged. BROB had certainly matched Ransomes in the heat sapping conditions and it was changes all round for Ransomes after the break.
Not surprisingly, Ransomes grew more into the game as the match progressed and Ben Taylor headed home to put Ransomes in front for the first time. When Ben Deacon volleyed home a stunning third for Ransomes it effectively looked game over for BROB but you can't discount their fighting qualities. In the final quarter they managed to score twice in quick succession to level the game and as the game headed towards a penalty shoot out, up popped Ben Taylor to head home his second of the match and win the game for Ransomes.
Some real positives came out of the game for Ransomes and also some things to work on, but then again, isn't that what pre-season is all about.
Credit to BROB for a good game and on this showing, they should be in for a decent campaign.
