It's an away day for Ransomes Sports this weekend (Oct.21st) as they travel to Old Newton United for a SIL Senior Division fixture KO 2.30 pm.
The mood at Old Newton this season has been of optimism, but no sooner were their spirits lifted by an encouraging opening to the campaign, then they have been dampened by two heavy league defeats against Henley Athletic (4-0) and Halesworth Town (8-1). At least the fixture against Ransomes will give them a chance to shake off the pain of those two defeats as they will view the visit of a beatable Ransomes as an opportunity to get back on track - they will certainly fancy their chances.
Both Ransomes and Old Newton could use a win as neither side have enjoyed two wins on the bounce in the league this season. Neither side have kept a clean sheet either so far, so this match will be a difficult assignment for both teams defensively. The challenge to both sets of players will be, which of the two teams will get the balance right between not leaving too much space behind them, whilst at the same time, creating enough danger in their opponents box. In that respect, which team will have the perfect weekend?
Many were predicting relegation for Ransomes this season, but the hunger and desire to remain afloat will be evident throughout the season and they will cause problems for many teams as we progress.
Ransomes had their own liberation last weekend with that win over Sporting87 and they will now look to build momentum. The result was encouraging but this now needs to be a starting point for a consistent run of form, with Ransomes now outside the relegation places by just one point.
This fixture last term produced a 2-1 victory for the hosts but Ransomes will be looking to improve their own league form and subsequently avoid a relegation scrap. In contrast, Old Newton will want to steady their own league form as they look to push on - it's all set up for an absorbing encounter at Church Road.
