We faced league leaders Boro Rangers in the Lou Moore Trophy on a superb pitch at Eston Leisure Centre. we got off to a shakey start and conceeded after a defensive mix up allowed the prolific Danny Lockwood in to score after 5 minutes.
It got worse when we conceeded a penalty after 10 minutes but a superb save from Dale kept us in it. The game was tight at both ends for the remainder of the first half with chances few and far between.
HALF TIME - BORO RANGERS 1 REDCAR NEWMARKET 0
The second half was tight like the first and Dale had to pull off a couple of good saves. On the hour mark Kyran burst through and outpaced the home defence but fired over.
In the 70th minute a through ball found DANNY PUCKRIN racing clear of the home defence to guide the ball past the keeper. Both sides had a chance to win it in normal time with Mike Dowse going close for us and they struck the bar

We got the early breakthrough in extra time when Puckers was tripped in the box on 95 minutes and CRAIG SKELTON hammered home the penalty.
Before the break Boro Rangers were level when we failed to clear a free kick in to the box and Lockwood scambled home his second to level the game.
The game offered liitle more in the way of chances although both boxes saw plenty of activity in the closing minutes. With scores level the game went to penalties.

A cracking result against the team top of the league, but made to look ordinary by some hard work and fine football by the Newmarket team.
Going behind so early in the match due to a mistake by the normally ‘Mr. Reliable’. However there was no panic, although hearts were in mouths when Boro were awarded a penalty, but a great save by Dale kept us in it. On that note Dale made several great saves during the game, and quite rightly was ‘man of the match’.
Both teams had chances, and the final score after a.e.t. = 2 – 2.

Everyone played their part, the pace of the game and the extra time put extra pressure on everyone, and a toll on the team’s fitness. The subs that came on did the team proud.
