We travelled to Grangetown Boys Club for the semi final of the Kecol Lou Moore Trophy. We had a depleted side for todays game with Kyran Clark and Jamie Graham unavailable due to work commitments and Mike Beacham injured following the game at Fishburn Park on Wednesday night. However we still had quality players coming in, but we didnt have the numbers on the bench today.
We started quite well but the home side had a close effort just over in the first minute. We began to take control but had to make a change on 10 minutes when Ross Harrison was injured. We had a couple of close efforts with a header from Puckers kicked off the line and 2 shots that hit the bar. We were generally in control but couldn't find a way through. We were defending well and Dale wasn't really troubled in our goal.

A great start to the second half and full back DANNY McCAULEY burst through on the right and fired a deflected shot past the keeper. Within 5 minutes we had doubled the lead with a fine finish from CRAIG SKELTON. We were in full control now and should have gone on and won much more comfortably as we missed a string of good chances. our task should have been made easier when Grangetown had a man sent off. To give credit to Grangetown, they didnt give up and pulled a goal back with the last kick of the game deep in to injury time.
It was a game that we should have won more comfortably but given that we had several key players missing and players playing in unfamiliar roles, all in all it was a job well done.
We now play Stockton West End in the final at Redcar Athletic FC Green Lane Redcar on Wednesday May 4th 7.30pm

Double edition Gents after 2 games this week, may I say 2 great results after the way we had played in the previous two games, well done to all concerned.

WEDNESDAY 06/04/2016, away to Fisburn, on a cold damp evening, on a pitch which could have passed as an allotment.
A great 3 – 1 win with a goal from KC and two penalties by Skelly. It was good to see some old faces back down representing the team as players were missing. Skelly, Rambo, Chris Coward in the starting line up and Mick Knight on the bench. Sam back in the team also after he had recovered his toys!!
A frantic start to the game saw Rambo on his haunches after 10 minutes as he struggled to keep up with the pace of the game.
20 mins and a tame shot by Jamie G, straight at the home keeper after great work by Sam in the home box.
23 mins and 1 – 0 to Newmarket, KC shooting from the edge of the box, the ball took a wicked bounce and the home keeper flapped to push the ball onto the post, and scrambled back to try and stop the ball from crossing the line.....too late.
28 mins and Rambo with his 2nd wind, putting in a fine cross, KC heading just wide.
31 mins and ‘Biz’ made to do a last ditch tackle in the away box forcing a corner from a real Fishburn chance. From the corner the ball was eventually played to Hodgey, who worked it well from the centre to eventually set up Jamie, his shot saved.
33 mins and a shot by Skelly skewed wide.
39 mins and the Newmarket defence getting a bit sloppy giving the ball away and allowing Fishburn a shot at goal....blazed over.
42 mins and an angled shot by Skelly just missed the far post...KC, Jamie and Skelly working well on the approach.
43 mins and KC through on goal, only to be upended by the home keeper....penalty and a yellow card....Skelly took the penalty kick, boom, 2 -0.
Fishburn now desperate to get back into the game had a shot deflected for a corner....cleared.
HALF TIME.
48 mins and a ‘minor scuffle’ after Liam J was caught late.....Rambo booked for running 20 yards and getting involved (The ref’s words) Rambo had not run 20 yards all game so this was new, and maybe if we had not give him the nickname ‘Rambo’ he might not have felt the need to get involved.....a cheap £10 mate!! One of the home team also booked.
50 mins and 3 – 0, Chris Coward fouled in the box after a hazy run, that man Skell again with the spot kick.
51 mins and Fishburn with a free kick, angled to the back post, Dale doing well to clear the danger.
59 mins and Newmarket on the attack, the ball cleared to Danny Mac 30 yards out, could he, really could he.......NO....scuffed wide. AW.
62 mins Harry on for Chris C.
63 mins and Dale doing well to smother a cross into the 6 yard box with an attacker waiting.
64 mins, a cross to KC his header cleared off the line.
66 mins and Mick K on for Rambo. (Who needed oxygen at this point, but give him credit he kept going.)
76 mins 3 – 1, a shot by Fishburn attacker rebounded and fell nicely back to him to slot home.......pressure on Newmarket now as the evening was drawing in and the wind was against them.
The whole team dug deep.....for a change.
84 mins and KC through to finish the match off, his effort dragged wide.
90 mins and Ryan J on for Biz who suffered a hip injury.
Shortly after FULL TIME, and a great result....MOM = Skelly.

DEBTS AFTER THE GAME = KC, DAN, RAMBO (AND YC.) and SAM T......NOT GOOD ENOUGH CHAPS.

SATURDAY 09/04/2016....away to GRANGETOWN Cup semi final, the team changed again as players were missing or cup tied. However, another massive performance and another great win....WELL DONE.
The game started with Grangetown on the attack and saw a shot from them deflected onto bar for a corner.
3mins and Puckers attacking down the right, his cross to Harry blazed over.
11 mins and Gav through, with Skelly alongside....the ‘chuckle brothers’ then got involved....to you, to me, to you etc etc. Anyhow we missed what was really a golden chance as the ball was cleared off the line.
15 mins and disaster, Ross injured, however Joe Mc on and did well.
18 mins Grangetown through on goal, only a last ditch tackle by Liam saved us from going behind.
22 mins and a cross from Danny Mac saw Puckers header from point blank saved by the home keeper.
The game was now getting feisty, both teams wanting and needing to win.
31 mins and a fantastic strike from the Grangetown centre back, 40 yards, fortunately it went wide.
32 mins and a Grangetown free kick 25 yards out saw the ball bobble in front of Dale who did well to react quickly and recover the ball.
34 mins and Skell through, his attempt to lob the keeper saw him tip the ball onto that bar, which became detached..
36 mins Puckers through, left side of the box, normally a clinical finisher his shot sailed over the bar.
The game was end to end.
HALF TIME.
47 mins...Deadlock broken....1 – 0 to Newmarket, Puckers through and Danny Mac on the overlap to the right, his shot was half saved and deflected in of the defender trying to rescue the situation.......Get in.
56 mins and 2 – 0 to Newmarket....Skelly through again on the right, he looked to have gone too far, but his angled shot ‘scooped’ over the home keeper.
58 mins and Liam J forced to block a shot inside the box; his chest seemed to inflate to 3 times its normal size!!
60 mins and Grangetown down to 10 men.
63 mins and 3 – 0, Skelly again, but no, the goal ruled out for a foul!!
66 mins and a shot by Puckers was deflected into the home keepers grateful arms.
73 mins and Kas who had arrived back from Scotland on for Joe Mc.
75 mins and a Grangetown shot from the left saw Dale save quite comfortably to the top left of his goal.
76 mins and a cross saw Puckers at the back post, he headed back out instead of goalwards.....strange choice.
77 mins and Skell through, 1 on 1. Puckers free to his right. Skell blasted over, wasted....
80 mins and Hodgey with two strong defensive headers, who said he was hungover!!!!!!
90 mins and Gav through again, left side of the box, finish the game off....no, blazed over!!
Extra time....Dale forced to save to his left, then disaster, 2 – 1 as Grangetown forced a corner and scored from it, where were we, a free header lads!!
3 seconds after the restart all over.........the final awaits.
MOM = Puckers...well done.

The final is on WEDNESDAY MAY 4TH at Redcar Athletic’s ground...7.30pm k.o....v Stockton West End.
