Eagles Bow Out In Style

Three nil away win at Solihull Moors sees Eagles to safety in their finale

Five seasons of memories came to end with an impressive win away at old rivals Solihull Moors.

Eagles started their day just above the bottom two and faced the possibility of being relegated in their last ever match. Relegation rivals Kingshurst Sporting won one of their two games against Redditch Utd to leave Eagles needing a point to stay up.

Adam Houghton was unavailable but the team were boosted by the return of fit again Siljan Isufi to square up to ex team mate Charlie Bennett and were able to push James Johnson in to central midfield to do battle with Mason Taylor.

Eagles made the better chances early on and Danny Webb fired them in to a deserved early lead. Hugh McGowan made a stunning double save from Connor Powell and Charlie Bennett to protect the lead before Pat Rolinson & James Johnson combined to dispossess Connor Powell and put Curtis Turner in to make it 2 0 at the break. James Johnson was having much the better of his battle with Mason Taylor.

The second half was relatively quiet until Joe Dawson hit a 25 yard free kick in to the top corner to put Eagles out of sight at 3 0.

The final whistle blew and the Eagles faithful walked away with their heads held high knowing that once again they had overcome the odds and managed to keep the Central Warwickshire League's smallest club in Division 1.

What started as a conversation over a cup of tea between Leigh Simmons and Andy McGowan in October 2011 turned in to a five year story that no one could have predicted. It was a great shame that Phil Kimberley and Chris Turner were not on the side of the pitch to see such a great show of team spirit and loyalty play out.

Coach and club founder Andy McGowan said "It's been a brilliant five years and something I am glad we took on but now it's time to start afresh and I hope that everyone who was ever associated with the club will look back and smile about their time with us".
