Match report by Ben Jones as REMY make it four games unbeaten in the NWCFL Premier Division.

Litherland REMYCA produced one of their most complete performances of the season with a comfortable 1-0 victory against fifth-placed Northwich Victoria.

Elliot Taylor scored the decisive goal on the hour mark with a sensational touch and finish, extending REMY’s unbeaten run to four games.

REMY started the game on the front foot, looking to win the ball back aggressively in the middle of the pitch and forcing Northwich into mistakes.

Will Dunne and Oli Nugent showed good feet and continuously drove up the pitch with intent in the first 10 minutes, on one occasion playing Cal Hunter through down the left before the forward flashed a wicked ball across the box which narrowly missed a teammate at the back post.

Dunne was involved again as REMY threatened to take the lead after 15 minutes, receiving the ball from Hunter on the edge of the box before turning sharply and curling a dangerous effort just wide of the post.

Dunne and Hunter combined once again to create REMY’s best chance of the half, as the former beat several men before cutting inside and sliding a ball through for Hunter to run on to and fire off a shot which forced Ryan Hamer into a smart low save.

Colin McDonald’s side continued to play the ball around nicely and restricted Vics to a handful of attacking moves in the first period, doing everything short of taking the lead in a dominant 45 minutes.

Vics launched a counter-attack 10 minutes after the break which brought about their first real opportunity of the game, as Kuda Chingwaro cut inside and shot powerfully at Jack Reynolds who spilled the initial catch before immediately atoning for his error with an excellent close range save to deny the rebound.

Taylor then made REMY’s superiority count on the hour mark with a superbly taken goal. Plucking Luke Denson’s searching pass out of the sky and taking it in his stride, the forward outpaced the chasing defenders and lifted the ball over Hamer to notch his second goal in as many games.

Despite Steve Wilkes’ side pushing forward throughout the last 30 minutes in search of an equaliser REMY continued to defend valiantly, using the ball cleverly after winning it back and largely frustrating the opposition who found it difficult to get into any sort of rhythm throughout the game.

The referee blew for full-time without Vics having launched a serious threat to Reynolds in the REMY goal, bringing our unbeaten streak to four games with two wins and two draws in the space of 11 days.

We now look forward to an away game against Kendal Town this Saturday, while Northwich are set to host FC Isle of Man on Sunday.
