REMY fall to late defeat in tense derby

REMY were beaten 3-2 away at local rivals South Liverpool this afternoon in a tight and feisty encounter.

The visitors started the first half on the front foot, as James Hammill tested the goalkeeper early. He found space on the edge of the area to fire a powerful shot down low but saw his effort saved.

Nathan Corness was then played through on goal but could only fire his effort at the goalkeeper.

REMY kept on pushing, and had another golden opportunity to take the lead as Jordan Monthe found space to loft a cross into the box but Corness only headed wide.

The hosts grew into the game as the half wore on but neither side were able to break the deadlock before the end of the half.

REMY came out well, with Hammill firing a strong shot just over after a well worked corner routine.

It was the hosts who finally opened the scoring though. A lofted ball caused confusion and Neil Weaver capitalised, lobbing the ball over a stranded Patrick McLoughlin and into the net for 1-0.

REMY fought back, and were soon enough level as James Farr picked the ball up on the left and rifled an unstoppable shot into the top right corner.

Just five minutes later and the visitors were ahead, as a wonderful whipped corner was flicked on and into the net by James Hammill, who continued his excellent goalscoring form.

There was late agony for REMY however, as Mohammed Abdi headed South Liverpool level after a cross came in from the right.

The hosts then won it late on, a similar ball from the opposite flank was nodded in by substitute Charlie Glennon as South Liverpool took the points and ended REMY's winning run.
