REMY were frustrated by Glossop North End this afternoon, as the two sides drew 1-1 in a fiery encounter.
The hosts kicked off at Litherland Sports Park and looked to start the game of the front foot.
Within the first five minutes, REMY had their first chance. A free kick was swung in from the right touchline and Owen Beamon rose highest in the box but could only glance his effort wide of the post.
Another chance fell the defenders way again ten minutes later, as another cross this time fell at the feet of Beamon but this time he blasted his effort over the crossbar.
The game descended into a scrappy affair, with tackles flying in from both sides as they sought the opener.
Glossop grew into the contest and should have taken the lead as a ball found its way through to striker Richard Brodie, but he got underneath the ball as he slid in and saw his effort fly just over the bar.
In the last minute of the half, James Hammill made a great run in behind and found himself one against one. The man in form this time could not squeeze his effort under the crossbar as another great chance went begging.
After a long delay due to flared tempers, the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of the half.
Evidently, emotions had not simmered down during the break as the visitors were reduced to ten men early in the second half. Conal Gallagher was given his marching orders for kicking out at a player on the floor and left his side with it all to do.
Despite this disadvantage, Glossop did have a penalty appeal waved away by the referee, as the match remained in the balance.
Jack Bently went through for REMY not long after, but again the goalkeeper was equal to it, as the home side kept pushing for the opening goal.
Luke Denson turned to the bench in search of a goal, and that’s exactly what he got as Eric Durnell got on the end of a recycled corner. Beamon nodded down a cross from Hammill and the REMY number 12 did the rest, poking in from close range to give the hosts the lead with ten minutes to play.
The visitors struck back, however. A fast-flowing counterattack saw the ball put across the REMY box where Ollie McKay was waiting to pounce and smash in an equaliser for the ten men of Glossop just minutes later.
Both sides threw everything at it to try and find a winner, but it wasn’t to be, and the points were shared in a result which neither side will be truly happy with.
