REMY see off AFC Liverpool thanks to Hammill brace

REMY secured a vital three points this afternoon with a brilliant 3-1 victory over AFC Liverpool. A first half goal Nathan Corness and a second half double from James Hammill made sure the points stayed in Litherland.

The match started perfectly for the hosts, as they took the lead inside three minutes. Some good link-up play found Corness on the edge of the area, who struck a great shot into the top right corner, leaving the keeper no chance.

The game then settled down as the visitors tried to find a way back into the encounter. They huffed and puffed but nothing troubled Patrick McLoughlin in the REMY goal.

The best chance of the half fell to REMY, who should have extended their lead on the stroke of half time. A long throw found McVeigh, but he could only prod his effort over the crossbar, as the referee signalled an end to the half at just 1-0.

AFC Liverpool came out well in the second period, as they pushed in search of an equaliser.

They probed to no avail until Matty Brown took hold of the ball and ran through challenge after challenge. He worked his way into the box before the ball eventually found its way to Thomas Beckett, who squeezed his shot past McLoughlin at the near post to bring the scores level.

The visitors continued to push on, but REMY looked deadly on the break, with Hammill being sent through on goal but could only fire into the hands of the goalkeeper.

AFC didn’t learn from that though, as with 20 minutes left to play some magnificent work down the left-hand side saw the ball in behind and Hammill made no mistake this time.

He outpaced the last defender, poked it past the onrushing goalkeeper and stroked the ball into the open goal to the delight of the rest of the team and bench.

With just 15 minutes left to play, the home side tightened it up but still looked very dangerous on the counterattack, as Corness skied a good chance to seal the points.

Not long later and the game was safe however, as more good play on the left saw Corness find Hammill who again finished expertly, firing his effort into the roof of the net to seal the win for REMY.

The whistle blew for full time as REMY’s 3-1 win moves them up a place into 19th and further away from the relegation zone.
