Renfrew Cricket Club 1st XI Finish 3rd in Consecutive Seasons, Narrowly Missing Promotion Again
As the 2024 cricket season draws to a close, Renfrew Cricket Club’s 1st XI have secured 3rd place on the leaderboard for the second year in a row. Despite a promising start, the team narrowly missed out on promotion to Premiership 1 once again, falling just short in the final stretch.
At one point, Renfrew appeared poised to claim the coveted 2nd spot, but a series of defeats in the latter stages of the campaign dashed those hopes. Nevertheless, the squad showed great resilience and individual brilliance throughout the season.
Standout Performances:
Leading from the front, Renfrew's professional player, Myshukar Rahman, had an outstanding season with the bat. Rahman amassed an impressive 508 runs in just 13 matches, boasting an average of 50.8. His consistent performances saw him finish as the third-highest run scorer in the league, out of 221 batsmen.
Another key contributor was Farhan Khan, who delivered solid performances in the middle order, scoring 354 runs at an average of 32.18. His contributions were pivotal in helping Renfrew post competitive totals throughout the season.
On the bowling front, Captain Hussnain Haider led by example, claiming 27 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 3.34 across 12 matches. His efforts placed him 8th on the league’s leading wicket-taker list. Myshukar Rahman also shone with the ball, taking 23 wickets at an economy rate of 3.96, underlining his all-round capabilities.
Challenges and Setbacks:
Despite these strong individual performances, the team faced setbacks. Himanshu, Renfrew's star all-rounder, was forced to miss almost half of the season due to a shoulder injury sustained during a T20 game at KGV, which limited the team's options at crucial times.
However, Vice-Captain Mohsin Majeed stepped up in the absence of Captain Haider and led the team admirably, ensuring that Renfrew remained competitive throughout the season.
Looking Ahead:
As the team reflects on another near-miss, it’s clear that while individual brilliance was on display, Renfrew will need to improve in several areas. The club has a strong foundation of talent and determination, and with continued focus and development, they will be aiming to finish better in 2025
Renfrew Cricket Club will undoubtedly be a team to watch in the seasons to come.
