Retford United FC VS Dinnington Town FC

The addition of our new players has turned the club around and put us back on track to where we should be.
- Nik Springthorpe

I would like to start by welcoming our two new players, Jimmy Eyles and Brad Kilner to the squad, both of whom have played for the mighty Badgers previously - Jimmy has proven himself as a prolific striker for every club he has played for and Brad returns having captained Retford United FC last season.

Saturday’s match against Dinnington Town FC saw a brilliant result with the final score being 4-0 to Retford United FC!! This only proves what I already knew; during the preseason and up until this point, we had been lacking something up front. The addition of our new players has turned the club around and put us back on track to where we should be.

The match was Jimmy Eyels first appearance and what an impressive debut it was; he bagged us a goal within the first 3 minutes of the match putting us in good stead and followed up with a second soon after, meaning we went into halftime 2-0 up. The team’s spirit was lifted, putting the atmosphere and dynamic between the lads at an all-time high which was great to see. During the second half, Ryan Smyth got himself onto the scorecard too with a fine brace – well done Ryan, I knew you had it in you!

This development has given us the impetus that we had hoped for in the opening match, however, we can only move forward and take it game by game. To start getting these results from the second home game is early enough in the season for us to now capitalise on and I have no doubt we will now be the team in the northern division to watch. So please, if you haven’t yet, get yourselves down to Cannon Park’s next home game on the 25th August against AFC Bentley!
