The 2018/19 season kicked off on Saturday 4th August against Collingham FC, with the final score being 1-0 to the opposing team. Although I can’t deny the result was disappointing, there were plenty of positives in terms of how well the team played. Our passion and determination remained evident throughout the game and I could see how much the lads were pushing themselves. In training, the team is continuing to grow from strength to strength and I have every confidence in their abilities.
The turnout for the match was fantastic; over 200 supporters attended and the atmosphere throughout Cannon Park was electric. It was exactly how a football match should be; competitive, positive and friendly. I hope this level of support continues throughout the season, as I am certain each match will only get better. As I have said before, football at Cannon Park on a Saturday will be more satisfying than watching any of the pros!
As always, I would like to express my gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Retford United FC for continuing to keep the matches and training sessions running smoothly, as well as all the important work that goes on behind the scenes. I would also like to thank all the dedicated fans that continue to root for RUFC; it is a pleasure to be able to chat with you on match days and read all your uplifting comments and messages on our social media accounts.
Long-term success comes from a solid foundation and a group of committed individuals working together towards a common goal. This is what we are aiming towards and when it is achieved – it’s only a matter of time before the efforts translate into success on the field.
I look forward to seeing you on the sidelines and in the 2018 Lounge soon!
