Baabaas victory as a new Barbarians

The Barbarians welcomed our local rivals Aston Old Edwardians, to Moor Lane, for the 1st game of a new season, and finished the day with a nice taste of victory in our mouths.
First of all, we must thank the lads from Yardley & District and Willenhall rugby clubs for coming down and making a proper barbarians side, which is what we are aiming for this season, by inviting spare players from all clubs to have a run out.
Second, thank you to all the supporters who turned up, it was great to see so many of you.

Now to the action.........
The Barbarians started the game very well, getting our first points after 4 minutes with a try from Gareth (Y&D), 5 minutes later we're on the score board again with a try from Darren (Y&D) who also kicked the conversion. 12-0 in favour of the Barbarians.
From the kick off, we took the ball right up to the Aston try line, and after a few passes in the 5 meters, Shay (Y&D) powered over for another try to the home side, our very own Kirk McWee added the conversion.
Kirk then got a try for himself after 20 minutes, also slotting over the conversion to take the score to 26-0.
4 minutes later the Barbarians are on the score sheet again, this time Darren (Y&D) grabbing his 2nd try of the afternoon, Kirk again was successful with the resulting kick, taking the score to 33-0.
It was at this point that Aston now joined in to play rugby, and they were rewarded with a try just on the stroke of half time. 33-5.
2nd half was a different story, the Barbarians, had their chances to add more points, but it was Aston who did the adding, on 65 minutes, it looked and sounded that the referee blew up for a knock on, only to wave play on, and before we knew what was going on, Aston ran up the pitch to score under the posts. 33-12.
Aston then managed to grab 2 more tries near the final whistle to make the final score 33-22.
