Rhostyllen started their first season in the Welsh National Premier Division with a hard fought win at the Welfare on Friday night. New signings Kurtis Prydderch and Matty Williams started with fellow new signing Keiron Taylor on the bench.
In very blustery conditions for an August game the village started against the elements. After early pressure from the hosts it was the away side who took the lead when good buildup play saw Lewis Clamp break free on the left hand side before sliding a great ball into the corridor of uncertainty and Ash Ryan was on hand to tap the ball home, although there was some suggestion that the Llay defender got there first.
For the rest of the half the village created little but did defend resolutely against the improving home side. The half ended with the league newcomers 1-0 up.
The second half started badly for the away side however within a few minutes of the restart as the home side equalized. A few minutes later and the village found themselves behind as the Home side striker raced clear and calmly finished.
A change in shape and personal saw Niall Rooney and Keiron Taylor enter the action, This kick started the away sides effort and chances began to follow. They were level on 65 minutes when Matty Wills found himself one one one with the keeper and made no mistake. The away team continued to come close to a winner. Just as it seemed the game was heading to a draw the away team struck a winner on 89 minutes, Steven Jones whipped a corner in from the far side and it looped over the keeper and in. Llay piled on the pressure in the last few minutes but it wasn't enough and the Village had 3 points to start the season off.
