Hearts ground staff did everything to get the game on and they were looking to progress into the 4th round of the cup and the opposition (Everton sixth Form) were the obstacle in their way. Hearts knew that nothing other than 110% work rate and attitude would be enough. Hearts started the game on front foot seeing the majority of the ball and they pressed from the front and were forcing errors from the opposition. In a frustrating 1st half hearts rued many a missed chance; however it was all to play for in the 2nd half.

Hearts knew they were in for a battle in the second half and started the brighter when Cameron Thorpe had a strike at goal in the opening stages of the game. Hearts took the lead around ten minutes into the second half through a penalty kick. The ball was struck on the edge of the box and was handled in the area; the player was booked for this offence.

Up stepped Connor Hadfield to put Hearts in the lead. With Hearts on top and Everton not really causing much threat, Liam Pullen was introduced and replaced Tyler Holt, Hearts won a free kick due to Connor Hadfield being pulled by the shirt but due to his reaction of kicking out at the player he was sent off as well as the opposition player.

Liam Pullen moved to right back to fill the space left at the back. Hearts however didn't let this damage them as Cameron Thorpe slotted home after a well timed pass put him in the clear to put breathing space between the two sides. Everton won a Free kick out wide, it was taken and Aaron Longden won the ball and ran wide being fouled from behind and the second yellow card was then shown to the player as Everton went down to 9 men. Aaron then won Hearts another Freekick as he was kicked from behind again and another yellow card was shown to Everton. Attitude, discipline, commitment and performance levels was at their highest today and the lads progressed into the 4th round of the Men’s knockout cup.
