It was a slow start to the game by Hearts and Coaching Connexions were well on top early in the game. Hearts did not get into any rhythm nor did they do the basics right. The stubbornness of the defence and brilliant keeping by David Riley kept the scores level. The coaching staff had a lot to address at half time if an improvement was to be evident in the second half of the game.
In the dressing room at half time there were harsh words said by the coaches and clear instructions that only following the plan they had been given would result in a positive outcome to the game.
Hearts feeling of disappointment at half time knowing they had not performed obviously spurred them on in the second half.
The lads started the second half a lot better and seemed to have opened their eyes and realised they were in a game of football. They were pressing from the front and Coaching connexions were getting frustrated as this stopped them from playing their normal game. After the improvements made in the second half they took the lead through Cameron Thorpe who continues his fantastic goal scoring start to the season to make it 1-0. After a dominate second half performance Hearts doubled there advantage when Noshed Nahid gained possession of the ball and played a neat pass over the top down the line to Cameron Thorpe, he saw the keeper of the line and took the shot, the ball swerved towards the goal and hit the post and went in for the second of the game for Hearts. They managed to see the game out get a clean sheet and Cameron Thorpe continued his red hot form in front of goal. Corey Clarke worked hard up top to allow Thorpe the space to score his brace. Connor Hadfield named MOM.
Hearts are through to the third round and await their next opponents in the cup.
