Rolls returned to league action on Saturday with an away fixture against Enfield, still smarting from the 3-2 defeat away at Settle United some 2-weeks previous.

Despite still having players missing, Rolls went into this full of confidence, knowing nothing less than 3 points would do, and they duly delivered their best performance of the season so far.

From the first minute, Rolls dictated the tempo of the game and quickly set about establishing their game plan. The visitors opted to start the game with Kian Ellis and Bailey Coates as the front men, their pace and movement were causing the Enfield backline all kinds of problems in the opening exchanges, and it is through Coates where Rolls were rewarded for their early dominance. Picking the ball up to the right of Enfield’s box, some 25 yards out, Coates delivered a cross/saw the keeper off his line and the ball flew into the top corner of the Enfield net to put the visitors 1-0 to the good. Only Bailey will be able to tell you whether he meant it or not.

Rolls were well on top and no sooner had they broken the deadlock, they had doubled their lead and this time there was no debating Coates’ intentions!

Luke Parkinson was a constant nuisance for the visitors and when he skipped past his man midway through the Enfield half, he squared the ball to Coates who clinically finished to get his second of the afternoon.

The Rolls midfield were dictating the game, with the impressive Spencer Jordan at the heart of every Rolls attack although every time the hosts did attack, the increasingly impressive Rolls back line of Cocker, McCusker and Cockcroft, snuffed out any potential danger.

Midway through the first period Rolls were further rewarded for their strong start, when a Brandon Cocker through ball released Bailey Coates who this time turned provider, beating his man and squaring the ball to strike partner Kian Ellis who opened his league account for the club. 3-0 Rolls.
With 20-minutes of the first half to go, it looked as though Rolls would put the game out of sight but Bailey Coates, who is becoming a regular contributor to the end of season fine tin, fired over from 5-yards, with an empty net glaring at him. An early contender for miss of the season.

Despite missed opportunities, Rolls did get their 4th goal of the afternoon before the break. Spencer Jordan was brought down in the box, before dusting himself down to convert the resulting spot kick himself, to give the visitors a commanding half-time lead.

The half-time interval saw several changes made, some enforced due to injuries some to freshen up personnel.

Nathan Taylforth returned after his injury lay off, George Lewin getting minutes in after missing last couple of weeks and Aaron Barber coming on to effect the game with his pace.

Enfield began the second period with a change of formation to try and combat the rampant visitors and after the restart, they started the brighter of the two sides. The home side were visibly trying to press higher up the pitch, hoping to force the visitors into mistakes but Rolls held their nerve when under pressure and kept Enfield at arm’s length.

Gaps were beginning to appear in the Enfield back line and Rolls hit the hosts on the counter attack to quash any hopes Enfield had of getting themselves back into the game. This time it was Nathan Taylforth’s turn to get on the act, following in a parried Kian Ellis shot to be presented with the simplest of tap-in’s, 5-0.

As the game wore on, Enfield were beginning to tire and Rolls were having continued joy from shifting the ball into wide areas, and it was from the right flank whereby there was a second contender for miss of the season. George Lewin carried the ball 30 yards, brushing off several Enfield players in the process, before blazing well over the top from 7 yards and I expect that the Enfield ball boys are still at Wilson Playing Fields today trying to find the ball!

With the game petering towards a conclusion Rolls completed their performance in-style, when Nathan Taylforth picked up from where he left off prior to his injury to continue his fine goal scoring form, finishing well to complete a 6-0 victory for the visitors.

This Saturday Rolls look to continue their improving start when they travel to Hapton.
