They said it couldn't be done, then they said it couldn't be done again, and well that is true for another year, as Roxbourne let the illusive holy grail slip from their hands from what was a commanding position.

Whilst I can't comment on the bowling, the general consensus of opinion was that we probably gave them 20 more runs than we should of, and if true then that was to become a defining factor, as we fell 8 runs short from keeping the dream alive.

Having started really well after the first 10 overs at 6 an over Roxbourne were heading for what was shaping up to be a comfortable chase. Then loose shots across the line to straight balls cost Al & Ollie I their wickets and a loose drive outside off cost Jean his for a duck.

This wobble steadied as Finley started to play his shots and a dash to his 50 put the ball well in our court. However that confidence then spread to over confidence and 3 identical poor shots from Finley, Ollie S & Daz started to swing the game Ramblers way. As 151 for 5 became 167 for 9.

This brought veteran Nick Read and Super Veteran Paul Hunt to the square requiring 29 off 10 overs, and an impressive array of defensive prowess, quick singles and some mighty blows including 1 six, meant Roxbourne were on the verge of an impressive rear guard action. However it was not to be as with 11 balls remaining a fine strike by Nick Read was met by a once in a lifetime reaction catch by the bowler. On any other day it was 4 runs and the Grail would remain alive however it was not to be.

So it was off to the bar to discuss what could of been and start to prepare for next week.
