Yet another memorable Sunday cricket fixture that went down to the wire.
Against unknown opposition you never quite know what you are going to get, and after a first ball wicket against the most extravagant shot and then 2 more in relatively quick succession, it looked like the game could be over in quick time.
However the opposition dug and got to circa 70 runs at the drinks break. After this things started to turn against Roxbourne through a combination of some poor bowling, attacking batting and some slack fielding we found ourselves chasing a 200 run target to win the game, not a target that anyone thought was on the cards, and with a relatively inexperienced batting line up a tough ask for the team.
However Roxbourne' s old guard of Nick Lawson, Nick Read & Andy Dischamps put on a fine batting display, with the latter 2 both achieving 50's and the pick of those a impressive 70 from Nick Read, who only succumbed in the closing overs having got the team almost to the finishing line, with a display of shots that would of been fitting from a Nick Read in his 20's.
