RUSKIN UP TO FOURTH WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

RUSKIN UP TO FOURTH WITH IMPRESSIVE WIN

Barry Loftus21 Oct 2024 - 13:09

Newton-le-Willows 5-58 Ruskin Park

Ruskin climbed to fourth in the table after an impressive win against local rivals Newton-le-Willows. Coach Lyon said it was a great week for us on and off the pitch. We put everything wrong from last week right. We played as a team and showed each other a lot of respect.
Ruskin started on the front-foot from the off with three tries, two for Tom Lea and one for Will Smith, in the first ten minutes. Newton pulled one back on 14 minutes but any signs of a recovery were short-lived as Ruskin piled on the agony with a second try for Will Smith and a first try of the day for Tom Sephton, to take the visitors in at half time 29-5 up.
Ruskin started strongly after the restart. Sam Westhead got his name on the scoresheet four minutes in and Tom Sephton got his second six minutes later. Ruskin continued to impress as the game progressed and there were tries for Ben Musker and one each for Tom Sephton and Will Smith with the pair completing hat-tricks.
Speaking after the game, Chris Rich said this week, our coaches brought us back to basics after last week’s performance. The training atmosphere was positive, and it was amazing to see everyone buy into the goals we set. This attitude translated to the pitch where we demonstrated the desire and commitment to show up for each other consistently. Our defense was rock-solid, setting us up for success with the ball in hand. Maintaining discipline was crucial, and Saturday's performance highlighted the impact of sticking to our principles. Our forwards were phenomenal, setting the stage for the backs to capitalize and finish off several chances impressively. Here's to keeping this momentum going!
