One Player One Club registration has long been discussed within Welsh football and as far as we understand, it is extremely likely that this will be brought in for Season 2022/2023. Whilst it hasn’t yet been voted in One Player One Club registration is a FIFA / UEFA directive that the Football Association of Wales (FAW) are likely to be directed to adhere to, in short it removes the ability for players to hold a dual registration; in many cases their grassroots club and a JD Cymru Premier Academy. There are of course many arguments for and against the implementation of the One Player One Club registration approach. Creating a level playing field in terms of ability and level of challenge for individual players being one and increasing the opportunity for participation being another; both of which will be individual considerations that players and parents/guardians may explore. The Wrexham & District Junior Football League have this season attempted to address the issue of mixed ability sides with the creation of leagues based on previous seasons results/performances to encourage players to be allowed to participate at their own ability level. Ruthin Town FCAt Ruthin Town FC we have a clear pathway for players to develop, thrive and fall in love with the game from U6s through to our senior First Team who have just finished a highly creditable 5th in their league, the 2nd Tier of Welsh football, the JDCymru North. This is a tried and tested pathway which we are proud of and has countless examples of its success over the years, often being the envy of many ‘academies’ in the area yet operating as a grassroots club. Of course, at first glance the term ‘academy’ to some may sound far more appealing than ‘grassroots. We ask that you carefully consider everything involved when making your decision either way. There will of course be obvious differences in terms of the cost and travel implications (far greater) if choosing to join an ‘academy’. We would encourage you to allow your child to remain playing and enjoying their football at Ruthin Town FC where we continually strive to create the best environment possible across all of our age groups; something that has been recognised by the Football Association of Wales themselves in awarding the Club Platinum Accreditation status, the highest possible in Wales. If you have any questions or require any further information, in the first instance we’d welcome the opportunity to discuss with your further to ensure you are able tomake a fully informed decision, and the correct decision for yourselves as parents/guardians and most importantly the young person concerned.
