Salisbury Hockey Club (SHC) has set up a bursary scheme, funded by Salisbury City Council, to support and encourage new players to hockey who may otherwise not have the opportunity.
Salisbury City Council’s small grants are for initiatives to support the Salisbury City Community area, and the youth bursary funding is designed specifically to support the free provision of activities for young people who could not otherwise afford to take part.
The SHC Youth Bursary is available therefore for anyone aged 11 – 16 who may fall into this category. We have two bursaries available for the 2024-25 season. Each covers:
The bursary is open to join either U12, U14 or U16 squad age groups. Applicable squad age is determined in line with school start dates / year groups.
Why have we applied for and set up a bursary scheme?
Hockey is an exciting, physically challenging, fun and skilful game, yet due to the high cost and space needed for pitch facilities, it’s not a sport offered as part of the curriculum in many schools. Therefore, some youngsters never get the chance to try the sport.
SHC is dedicated in its aim to be a fully inclusive provider of hockey to the Salisbury area, and we welcome anyone who wants to get involved in hockey. Yet we recognise that the club today is not as accessible to everyone as it could be.
The physical, social and mental benefits of playing a team sport like hockey, and the opportunities of being part of a club like SHC, are many and that’s why we are passionate about helping more people have the opportunity to join us and take part in such a brilliant sport.
Through the new SHC Youth Bursary Scheme, made possible through funding from Salisbury City Council, we hope to create more opportunities for anyone who thinks hockey might be the sport for them.
The bursary application process for the upcoming hockey season is now open.
All applications, and any bursary granted, will be treated in total confidence.
