Job Title: Men’s Head Coach/Director of Rugby
Reports to: Main Committee of SSRFC
Closing date: Friday 14th June 2024. Position begins Pre-Season for the 2024/25 season (date to be finalised).

Job Purpose: To oversee, develop and implement an ambitious coaching strategy to ensure the success of men’s rugby at SSRFC.

Job Description: SSRFC is recruiting an outstanding Head Coach. The primary role of the candidate will be to ensure the success and development of the men’s senior playing teams (1st & 2nd XV). A secondary aspect of this role will be to liaise with other relevant coaches to ensure the Hurricanes overall aims and objectives are able to be met. You will ideally have a proven track record in coaching rugby and gaining results and a good understanding of what it takes to run an ambitious rugby programme.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan and lead training sessions and oversee match days with a tactical vision for performance.
  • Create an environment that stimulates and promotes player pathways and development throughout the club at all levels.
  • Develop individuals’ skill set, confidence and fitness levels.
  • Work with other parties to ensure players’ nutrition, fitness, strength and conditioning and performance mindset allows them to thrive.
  • Retain existing players and work to recruit new players at all levels.
  • Assist in organising travel, equipment, coaches, and physios, in liaison with team captains.
  • Liaise with other coaches/employees where appropriate.
  • Provide feedback to coaches, players and appropriate SSRFC committees.

Person Specific:

  • England Rugby Advanced Coaching Award (old RFU level 3 qualified) (or a minimum Coaching Award [lvl 2], working to the Advanced Coaching Award).
  • Experience of leading, planning and delivering coaching sessions and analytical information (team and player specific).
  • Player centred / match day approach to coaching and player development.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of up-to-date coaching practices and laws.
  • Must be self-motivated with a drive to improve.
  • Experience of player recruitment preferred. The club would like to act as an attractive opportunity for talented players in the local area.
  • Work and communicate effectively as both part of a team and as an individual.
  • Must have a Full driver’s license and a DBS check will be required/processed.

The Hurricanes are a successful and ambitious rugby club based on the south of the Isle of Wight. We pride ourselves on developing players through our set up and are also committed to providing rugby opportunities to all. This includes looking to play highly competitive rugby, those looking to enjoy social rugby, and anyone aiming to begin playing from no experience.

Men’s 1st XV: to be competitive in Counties 1 Hampshire.
Men’s 2nd XV: Provide social playing opportunities for members of all ages and abilities. Continue to provide highly competitive rugby to all players, including those with 1st XV aspirations.
Men’s Vets/3rd XV: following the Vets winning the County Cup Vet competition, to build on this success and provide regular playing opportunities for the Vets/3rd XV through the season, ahead of the next Vets Cup competition.
Youth Rugby: To assist the Island's youth rugby system, Vectis RFC, with competitive and developmental rugby opportunities.
