Ladies Finish on a High

Ladies Finish on a High

Lee Sutton5 May 2016 - 21:53

The Scarborough Ladies ended the season with a 4-1 win away at Fishburn Park

After the Scarborough Ladies had got changed in facilities that looked designed for prisoners of war, they headed out on to the pitch ready for the final game of the 2015/2016 season. The Ladies knew that three points here would make them reach the target of 25 points and hopefully increase the chances of a top six finish.

The match got underway and the first moment to report on was a scream across the field of “man on giraffe” by one of the Scarborough Ladies players. The Scarborough bench went in to hysterics. Scarborough settled in to the game well and dominated the early stages. Beth Taylor showed some good work down the left hand side to deliver a cross that narrowly missed the two centre forwards and opposite winger Chloe Marshall.

After fifteen minutes Fishburn broke out and capitalised on their first chance of the game. They broke through the middle and rounded the defender and the goalkeeper to finish from close range. Scarborough needed to settle down and had several opportunities. The bounce over the defence fell to Beth Hosie whose hooked shot went narrowly over the bar. Danielle Kendrick, Beth Taylor and Aimee Ireland combined well down the left hand side with a fantastic move. It was like watching the new premier league champions Leicester City.

Fishburn did look dangerous on the break though and when the centre forward rounded the keeper it looked set to be 2-0 before a giraffe appeared up out of the grass and hooked the ball off the line. Megan Wingfield with the last ditch interception for those of you who genuinely though a giraffe ran on to the pitch. The last chance of the half fell to Hannah Green who shot narrowly over from just inside the box.

The second half saw Scarborough improve. The Scarborough side got the ball down and played much more. These efforts were rewarded when Chloe Marshall hit a contender for goal of the season from 25 yards to draw Scarborough level. Chloe Marshall then picked the ball up and picked a cross out to Maria Jagger who showed she had the moves like Jagger to finish from close range.

Beth Taylor thought she would put forward her nomination of goal of the season with a thunderbolt from outside the area with her right foot. The bench was shocked as we had never seen Beth kick the ball with her right foot. Beth doubled her tally for the match when bursting through the middle to stroke the ball past the keeper.

The Ladies look set to finish in the top six. A target that was set mid season. They have also reached the target of 25 points so a successful season all round. The club is saddened to lose a few players to Uni who have been fantastic this season and we wish them every success in the future.

Beth Taylor won player of the match for an energetic performance. The Scarborough Ladies look to progress further next Season.
