Hello, I’m Jordan and I am the first team captain and I would like to take this time to welcome you to Sheffield Oaks team, thank you for taking the time to check the page out.
Sheffield Oaks is a local player run club located at Parsons Cross Park in the steel city of Sheffield, the club has been operating since 1977 and has been producing some of the finest rugby in the city. We are currently competing in the Yorkshire Merit League and looking to recruit players of all abilities, backgrounds and personalities. We have a keen sense of identity and are committed to helping players integrate into welcoming community to help build a real sense of cohesion.
A bit about me- I have been playing rugby union since 2008 when my brother inspired me to take up the sport. I spent my junior years at my local club Grimsby Rugby Union Football club and was a part of a young squad travelling throughout the Lincolnshire and the Humber area. I helped form a rugby team at my secondary school and in 2012, we went on to win Northeast Lincolnshire County Champions. When I turned 17 in 2013, I was offered the opportunity to join Grimsby Colts which I enjoyed a successful spell as outside centre despite playing the year above me. I eventually moved into the adult squad the following year.
I moved to Sheffield in 2015 to undertake my Sociology degree at Sheffield Hallam University in which I had my first taste of rugby at university. I joined Sheffield Hallam University Rugby Union team as eager fresher and would travel back to Grimsby to play in the men’s second team on the weekends. I graduated in 2018 and decided stay in Sheffield to seek out a local club which is where I came across Sheffield Oaks who I started training with at the end of that year. As I was starting to settle into the club, I suffered an ACL tear which ruled me out of the rest of the season.
Due to work commitments, I was unable to undertake surgery immediately and had to wait until 2020 to have this carried out which was further pushed back by pandemic. After nearly two years, I was finally fit and able to return to the field with the Oaks in 2021 who I have thoroughly enjoyed three seasons with, winning players player award in my first season and offered the role as vice-captain. At the end of the 23/24 season, I won the player’s player and clubman awards and was nominated as team captain. Since then, I have never looked back and continue to push myself.
Now- how can the club benefit you?
