Shelley FC attended Ossett Towns Gala, with top teams from all over Yorkshire. In 27 degree heat Shelley struggled to cope with the heat and in truth wern't at their normal fluent selves. Shelley were sluggish with a defeat and 2 draws in their 3 games an un heard of early exit was on the cards, but Shelley's outstanding team of last season galvanised themselves to produce football beyond their years infact the comments from most of the opposition managers marvelled in the level of ability, determination and team ethic. Having negotiated 2nd spot in the league format Shelley qualified for the semi finials and faced Heindley FC who topped their group, Shelley produced a maginifiant performance running out 3-0 winners with a superb display of passing, vision, discipine with a common goal for success.
The Final V Ossett Albion was a replay of the under 10's cup semi final from last season where Shelley ran out 2-0 winners. On this roller coaster day it was Ossett who took control of the game, in the second half with the Shelley boys looking as though the weather had taken it's toll the game went into extra time, with the determination now synonomous with this team they defended as though their lives depended on it and somehow with 30 seconds remaining broke away and clynically scored a goal of great great quality to win the tournament. The pleasing aspects of the day were obviously winning the tournament but also the comments from the gala commetee for the way we play the game.
