Match Report by Kevin O'Brien
The final scoreline flattered hosts Cadbury Heath a little, as their keeper Dan Worton made three key saves in the first half hour before his side then hit two goals against the run of play in 90 seconds just before the break. Despite not being at their best, Shepton did get back into the contest 15 minutes from time through Joe Morgan's fine strike, but could not find the net again, unlike Heath who added an academic third deep in stoppage time to go into the hat for the next round.
A long 10th minute goal kick by Shepton's Tom Easterbrook saw Tyson Pollard outpace the home defence only to be denied by Worton ,who did well to turn Pollard's shot away for a corner. From the cross James Billing had his shot blocked, before Heath's first chance after 15 minutes came with a wayward effort from Sacha Tong. Playing well at this stage, Ollie Bryant created Shepton's next half chance with a dangerous cross that just eluded Pollard's outstretched leg and drifted narrowly wide of Worton's far post. The same two players combined again after half an hour as Pollard latched onto Bryant's cross only to be frustrated by Worton again, who made a superb save from Pollard's well hit shot, before the keeper then somehow blocked Conrad Peck's follow up effort from close range. The game turned on it's head though 7 minutes before half time as Heath, having been second best hitherto, took the lead against the run of play following a free kick cross that Easterbrook could only knock away from his goalline. Matt Huxley, who always seems to score against Shepton, added to his record as he reacted quickest with a snap shot from 12 yards. Worse was to come just over a minute later as the home side added a second goal, after James Billing misplaced a pass that put colleague Tom Hill under such pressure that he tripped Tong up inside the area, for Jack Camm to beat Easterbrook from the penalty spot. Tong had a shot saved by Easterbrook at the end of the half, and Huxley fired the first chance after the restart over the bar, before George Morris-Edwards headed Shepton's next attempt too high. After Tong forced another decent save from Easterbrook with an hour gone, a quiet spell was broken with 15 minutes left as Shepton pulled a goal back with their best move of the match. Morgan sent Craig Loxton away down the right, who played a reverse pass inside to Harry Ratcliffe, who squared the ball to Morgan who had now moved into the middle. Morgan spun and smashed the ball in from the edge of the box to revitalise the visitors who had been off key for much of the second period. Loxton had a chance but shot straight at Worton, before Ratcliffe missed a great chance to equalise with 4 minutes to go after he broke the defensive line only to shoot the wrong side of a post with the goal at his mercy. Late in stoppage time, a catalogue of errors then allowed Lewis Shapp to scramble the ball in for Heath's third to round off a disappointing afternoon for Shepton, whose next outing is at West Shepton this Saturday when they host Chipping Sodbury.
