A physical encounter against Clock Face saw the Sharks progress to the next round of the NWML cup.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, what could be more fun that watching the Sharks compete in a bruising game at St John Rigby playing fields...this question can be asked to players Phil Mallilieu, Adam Robinson, Roy Rimmer and Deane Meadows who all spent time on the side-lines after ill discipline saw the Sharks reduced 4 times to 12 men. This could have proved costly, but another outstanding defensive display by all the players ensured that we progressed to the next round of the NWC Cup. Mally was on the touchline when Deane Meadows scored the first of his two tries, as smart handling and deft footwork saw him go over between the posts, the conversion goaled by the very impressive goal kicking of Andrew Beaney who on the days managed to convert 6 goals from 7 attempts. As Mally returned to the field Adsy was penalised and also sin-binned and from the ensuing Clock Face penalty Deane Meadows intercepted and ran in under the sticks from 70 yards, again goaled by Beanie giving the Sharks a 12 nil advantage. With a full compliment of players and half time looming the Sharks quickly packed down for a scrum close to the line, great hands from the scrum found Jimmy Dyson who crashed over wide out to the left, a great kick from Beanie saw the Sharks go into half time with an 18 nil advantage. At half time the coaches made it very clear that although we were 18 nil ahead they were not happy with the performance and asked for an improved second half showing. It started well as Beanie slotted over a 30 yard penalty after 50 minutes, but then Clock Face reduced the deficit over a fifteen minute period that saw them run in sixteen unanswered points. With forwards Chris Bates and Chris Dunn both having to be replaced due to injury, the forwards upped their effort and got the Sharks back on forward momentum, A great solo effort from Sam Pepper led to a great try out wide on the right, as he wound his way through several defenders, this pushed the score to 26 - 16 and gave the Sharks forward momentum, thankfully both Chris(s) were able to return and were prominent as the sharks pushed closer to the line, a great move saw the ever impressive Mark Wright cross the line to stretch the lead to 30 - 16 as Beanie converted under the sticks. As the players had been placed on a team warning the unfortunate Roy Rimmer was sin binned for an alleged high tackle, the decision looked to be very harsh as it appeared Roy had clamped the player. Following this another incident led to Scrum Half Deane Meadows sent off, the Sharks reduced to 11 players. An incredible tackling display from Mike Norton (23 on the day) ensured that with only 11 men on the field the Sharks continued to impress. There was another Clock face try , before the returning Nick Rimmer took a great ball from the rampaging Roy Rimmer and raced round several players to touch down under the posts, Beanie adding the final conversion right on the whistle to give the Sharks a 36 - 22 win. Next week see's the Sharks return to league action with an away trip to Widnes west Bank.
