It was an early start for the Jaguars on Sunday 19th May, as we attended our first tournament of the 2024/25 season at Port of Bristol. On arrival it was clear the PoB club had put a lot of effort into what looked like it was going to be an excellent and well organised competition, with lots (and lots) of warm glorious sun!
The format was five 10 minute 7v7 games in a group of six teams, with the group winner and runner up going into a semi final knockout against a the winner and runner up from a second group. The majority of the teams we were going to play were Sunday league teams, so very much unknown quantities. The exception to this was that our sister squad, the U10 Panthers were also in our group... a much anticipated Colts "derby" awaited us!!
After a tough start in the first two games, the Jaguars really came into their own in the next three matches. Winning hard earned points against other teams, including a draw against the Colts Panthers, and a win against one team courtesy of a "Finn Smash" into the top corner!
It was a valiant effort against some terrific sides and the Jaguars showed the same courage, togetherness and team spirit that's brought them results and excitement all season.
A big shout to the squad members who couldn't come today due to squad size limitations. We can't wait to have them back for the upcoming tournaments! Thanks to Port of Bristol for putting on a great morning of football!
