New season kicked off in style for Shire Colts as they put in a dominant display at home vs Nailsea Athletic.
Although Shire made a slow initial start, we soon took control of the game, by having more of the ball and creating a lot of goal scoring chances.
Cameron Thompson in central midfield will get the pludits after playing a part in every goal, scoring 8 and assisting the other.
It was pleasing to see some of the shape work we worked on in training this week not go to waste, and our shape allowed us to control a lot of the game even when we weren't in possession. Nice to score a couple of headers from crosses in open play.
We were 6-0 up by half time, and made a few changes to make sure everyone get some decent minutes, it was the first competitive fixture which had 40 minutes each way.
We let our play slide a bit during the 2nd half and for 10/15 minutes the game was uneventful. Nailsea scored a good goal directly from a freekick. This goal kicked some life back into Shire with the reds scoring another 3 times in response.
There were a lot of good performances and tired legs today, but we have a platform to build from for the season. A very positive start. COYS.
Goals:
Cameron Thompson - 8
Dexter Hewitt - 1
