Man of the match - Bimalka Liyanarachchi

Siri Sports won their annual fixture against Charlbury Cricket club in an enthralling game which went down to the last over.

Batting first, Siri Sports got off to a now customary great start through skipper Iyanka Cooray and Shamilal Mendis. They put on 70 in quick time before they were both dismissed in succession. Charlbury skipper Jake Godfrey managed to pick up the prized wicket of Mendis yet again. Ashad Ali didn't last too long and was out LBW for 7.

Bimalka Liyanarachchi joined forces with Dhilhan Hannan to resurrect the floundering Siri innings. They started off slowly but picked up the pace as the innings went on. Bimalka reached his first Siri Sports 50 with a 6 over square leg, and Dhilhan followed him in doing the same by crunching yet another boundary through the off side. Dhilhan was eventually out for a very well made 52 and Bimalka followed soon after for a top score of 65. Afzal Zainudeen and Riyazi Hassim remained not out as Siri Sports ended with 206 for 5 off their alloted 35 overs.

After enjoying a well earnt tea break with the rest of the Siri families, Charlbury started in pursuit of 207 to win. Young Ben Sinton and not so young Ajit Shah started carefully. Afzal bowled impeccably as usual with Miyuru Liyanarachchi in support. But there was no breakthrough for Siri Sports with the new ball, which forced skipper Yankee to turn to his plathora of spinners. Farhan Zahir provided the breakthrough and Nirusha Weerasinghe followed suit which left Charlbury 2 down with the required rate climbing. Fellow Sri Lankan Thushara Rodrigo went about building a partnership with young Sinton. While they batted well, Siris held all the aces. With the Require rate climbing, Yankee cylced through his bowlers with Eranga Hadirampela, Bimalka and Dhilhan being introduced. Bimalka managed to get the breakthrough when he had Thushara caught well by Afzal at Long off. While the required rate was climbing, Siri Sports managed to affect 2 run outs courtsey Dhilhan and Bimalka.
Ben was batting well, and went on to make a well deserved 100 - his first in senior cricket. With 25 to get off the last over, Dhilhan managed to close the game out with a great last over with Siri Sports ending victorious by 17 runs.

Great game played in great spirit as usual.
