United Complete Brodie Signing

After weeks of hard work, Skelmersdale United are happy to welcome prolific striker Richard Brodie to the club.

Richard joins the club from National League North side Southport after ending his second spell at 'The Sandgrounders' and joins United with his 500th senior appearance in sight with 162 goals in 492 appearances at senior level.

He began his senior career with a two year stay (2004-06) at Whickham where he scored 21 times in 35 appearances before a short stint of three goals in 11 games for Newcastle Benfield. A move to York City saw him hit 69 goals in 165 games over a three year stay (2007-10) which included a seven game loan at Barrow in 2008 where he scored four times.

He moved on to Crawley Town with 13 goals in 45 games from 2010-13 including winning the 2010-11 Conference title before winning the following season on loan at Fleetwood Town (2011-12 - 10 gls, 39 apps), Further loans came at Morecambe (2012-13- 6 gls, 27 apps) and Grimsby Town (2013- 2 gls, 15 apps) before moving to Gateshead.

At Gateshead he scored twice in eight appearances across 2013-14 while also hitting the net once in eight games for Hereford United. He went on loan at Southport and earned a permanent deal where he went on to score 15 goals in 60 games for 'Port ahead of a single season at Aldershot Town with five goals in 26 apps in 2015-16.

He had a short stint at Stockport County (4 gls, 13 apps), a return to York City (7 gls, 19 apps) with a four game loan at Macclesfield Town. A three game stay at Boston United led to his second spell at Southport with seven appearances. He also has two England 'C' caps to his name from 2008-09.

Speaking to Richie, he commented " I am delighted to sign somewhere ahead of the upcoming season, looking forward to playing good football and enjoying doing so under a manager whom I fully trust "

United manager Alan Rogers expressed his delight "'Brodie' is a fantastic signing for the club, he has played at a much higher level and is a proven goal-scorer. I am delighted to have him on board after weeks of hard work to secure him. He will be a fantastic character in the dressing room.
