Hi my name is martin i am the U12s coach and this is Paul one my partners in crime.. Where to start , well another season’s over and what a interesting one it’s been! When I stood here twelve months ago, I would never have thought that we’d do reasonably well. Starting pre-season with 8 players but now up to a squad of 23 players with a mix of U11s/U12s/U13s.We’ve had our share of successes picking up 11 wins against teams like Phoenix, Reading Abbey, Ruislip, Thatcham, Abbotts, Chesham and 2 draws,. Another big plus was the Thacham coach commenting on how worried of our running game he and his team were when they had to play us at the Slough Tournament because earlier in the season we picked up a good result against them. But we’ve also had our share of problems too – notably when I had to call off training and the loss to Bracknell early in the season.
Season Review
At start of the season our plan was just to get the players playing as a team and improve support play and tackling and this was a success, because as the season progressed both Our Forwards and back line demonstrated a real flair for open, running rugby – particularly as their confidence grew – and by the second half of the season, the penny dropped and the players asserted themselves correctly in training and for games and this was when the team began to look as if they had been playing together all their lives.
Although we have done well and probably all feel a little disappointed with the first half of the season it’s important to remember that we’ll need to be every bit as good next year and i feel we’ve learnt some valuable lessons. One of the great things about this sport is that there’s always room for improvement, we can all work on doing something just a little better. When everyone does that, the results can be amazing – and if there’s one thing I know about each and every one of you, it’s that there isn’t anyone who wouldn’t give their all for the team..

I couldn’t possibly end without saying “thank you” to the ladies and Gentleman who make such a great job of making sure we don’t all fade away from thirst or starvation! And have fixtures to play. We really do appreciate all that you do for us – and we couldn’t do without you, and a big thanks to the parents for helping out when needed and supporting us coaches in what we would like and believe this team can achieve on and off the pitch. I also want to say “thanks” to all of you players for turning up to training, come rain or shine. There’s an old saying that “it matters not if you win or lose, but how you play the game” – and it’s an honour and a privilege to be associated with a group of people who play the game so well.
