Slough U11's helped our friends from Pheonix with a BaBa team at the Marlow Festival.
A mixed day in terms of performance having a joint squad playing together against established opposition from Aylesbury, Maidenhead, Marlow, Pontyclun and Reading.
The joint squad struggled at the beginning of the festival, as players had to find ways of getting to know the strengths of their Baba colleagues. In this context, the experience of playing fast paced games in a competitive and fair environment was overwhelming at the beginning but the players showed character and determination. With some guidance from the joint coaches, the players found solutions on the pitch and as the tournament progressed teamwork and support improved, with confidence growing from forward thinking in attack and defence.
As the festival progressed, our players demonstrated some excellent defence, being competitive at the breakdown and progressive passing moves saw several try scoring opportunities created being thwarted by good defence from the opposition. James managed to get on the scoreboard following some strong support play from the rest of the players.
Our players learnt that putting in the effort leads to progressive rewards, with smiles on faces knowing that when they've tried their best, they can walk off the rugby pitch with their heads held high. Our players demonstrated the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship throughout the tournament.
Lots of learning from today which our players can use in the Slough Wynford Festival on 21 April 2024.
The Slough Players at the Marlow Festival were:
