This looked from the beginning to be a playoff for 3rd place in the Division. Both sides went for it but after some good football from SBC a costly miss placed pass resulted in the only goal of the match on 15 minutes to Old Lyonians. SBC quickly reestablished dominance for the rest of the half with smooth passing play and control of the game starting with the two CBs Matt Morrison and Chris Patefield. Big chances were there from the likes of NIcky Martin, Perre Dhani, Justin Dymond and Malik Ellis but a combination of dogged defending and great goalkeeping kept the Blues from converting and taking the initiative.
The second half started off well enough but chances came and went from end to end with Old Lyonians edging it, with at one stage, Christie Oakley keeping the Blues in it with three excellent saves in succession. At the end of the day SBC still played well and created some cracking chances right to the end marshalled by Doddy in the middle, out balls offered by Josh John and Oli Jarman with increased attacking input from Ruben Boyd and Alex Hannaway. But again the Blues were unable to finally sink the ball in the back of the net.
Overall however this game and the way the Blues played showed that SBC is back to playing the football the way it should be and offers the prospect of many enjoyable games for the rest of the season and a taunting hint at glory next season.
