South Shields kick us off, and the opening exchanges are physical from both side.

Blyth are first to open the scoring with a powerful drive over from a short distance. The conversion is successful to give them a early lead 7-0.

Leejay Robinson and Daniel Hodgson were both due to start. However transport issues delayed their arrival. They both eventually find the field and are put straight into action.

It is in-fact Leejay who get South Shields off the mark with a fine solo try. Chasing down a loose ball and kicking it on several times past the Blyth defenders to score under the posts. Leejay himself with the successful conversion. We are tied at 7-7

Blyth respond almost immediately with their second score of the game scoring under the posts. The conversion however strikes the upright and Blyth only lead by 5. 12-7

In a real back and forth first half shields get the last score of the first half. Leejay again the scorer. A near identical try to his first, as he again chasing a loose ball and kicks past the Blyth defenders to score under the post. Another successful conversion gives shields the lead at the break 12-14

The opening exchanges of the second half are extremely tight with both teams giving it their all in attack and defence.

South Shields manage to break the second half deadlock with a penalty 30m out converted by Leejay Robinson. 12-17

A mistake from the restart and Blyth are level. The power drive from the scrum leads to a try in the corner. Conversion unsuccessful.
We are tied at 17-17.

Minutes later Blyth find themselves back in the lead. A pick and go from mere yards out. The conversion again is unsuccessful. 22-17

Shields desperate to get back into the game push the Blyth defence to the end. Luc Wilson is unlucky not to score after being held up over the line. Shields are camped in the Blyth 22.

With the game coming to a end and shields legs tiring, Blyth manage to push up the field and score the last points of the game. Another try out wide. Some confusion with the conversion as Blyth celebrate however it falls just short and is once again waved as unsuccessful. 27-17

The full time whistle blows and Blyth are deserved winners. Shields will feel unlucky to have came away with nothing from this fixture however the feeling in the dressing room was one of pride. The lads gave it their all and with limited availability pushed a good side all the way. We wish Blyth all the best for the rest of the season and dust ourselves off and go again next week.
