Southwick Ladies 2s 2 : 6 Crowborough Ladies
The day got off to a dramatic start before the team even got on the pitch, with only a few of us getting throguh the A26 before a fallen tree blocked the way! After many u-turns and panicked WhatsApps, everyone eventually made it to Crowborugh, via a tiny back countrylane, complete with roaring ford.
The team was determined to have a good game despite only having 10 players against Crowborough, who had around 13-14. We even managed to get Clare Malarkey back on the pitch again after a more than five year absence!
Crowborough scored first, and then again but Wick quickly rallied around and fought back, with Clare M's goal hanging paying off with a fantastic goal. The first half was rounded off by a nonchalent goal from Izzy, who casually tapped in a pass from Sarah J with a cheeky smile on her face.
Despite the positive half time huddle, Wick began to tire in the second half. Crowborough took advantage of this and pressed hard, leaving Wick struggling to fight back. Despite some valiant defending from the backline (Nic, Judith, POM Maureen and goalkeeper Mariann), Crowborough scored another four times.
The end result of 6:2 didn't really reflect the quality of play from Wick - with an extra player or two, the scoreline could have been very different!
