Sporting Club Thamesmead kept their play-off ambitions firmly on track with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Welling Town FC at the Masher Brothers Stadium this afternoon in front of a passionate crowd of 52.

The hosts took control of the first half, with Steve Karkari breaking the deadlock on the stroke of halftime, firing home in the 45th minute to give Thamesmead a deserved lead going into the break.

In the second half, Thamesmead continued to press and doubled their advantage in the 59th minute through Deshon Carty, who finished confidently after a well-worked team move. Welling Town, however, refused to go quietly and pulled one back in the 77th minute to set up a tense final quarter.

As the pressure mounted, Mathias Broomes delivered a crucial third goal in the 85th minute, restoring Thamesmead’s two-goal cushion with a composed finish that ultimately proved to be the winner. Welling Town grabbed a late goal in the 87th minute to make it 3-2, but Thamesmead held firm to secure all three points.

Mathias Broomes’ match-winning performance and relentless work rate earned him the Man of the Match award, presented by matchday sponsor 4 Ya Party.

The victory keeps SC Thamesmead in the hunt for a coveted SCEFL play-off spot, with momentum building at just the right time in the season.
