U11 Owls 8 v 1 Marple Athletic Blues

Our U11's finally got their first win of the season at the weekend at the Foggy Stockport Sports Village. Missing 4 members of the squad we knew our boys faced a test, one which they stood up to with great aplomb!
Noel Rigg was drafted in for his first start since being registered and got us on the way with an early tap in to put us one up and set the tone for a dominant opening 20 minutes. All our boys where committed and disciplined in keeping their shape while each and every one of them ran their socks off, something all the parents commented on. Kian Wild put us two up with the goal of the game, taking the ball on his chest, dinking it over the advancing defender before taking the ball on the volley and lobbing it over the keeper - take a bow son!!!
George Barnes showed great technique in despatching a volley to make it 3 and Mathew Maguire got the fourth after some ping pong in Marples goal area.
With the lads now fully in control, they could sense blood and the chance of further goals. With this, the lads went a little gung ho and lost their shape for the rest of the game as they all went in search of their moment of glory. A further 4 goals from George Barnes, Kian Wild and two for Ben Smith did arrive in the second half but double figures would surely have been reached if they'd stuck to their original orders, indeed Marples consolation goal just before the interval came when too many had pushed forward and not managed to get back when hit with a breakaway.
Bailey Hilton in goal had a run out in the second half in a swap with Noel Rigg while Jake Fallon produced a disciplined performance as the sitting midfielder protecting the back 3 superbly, earning him the shiney new man of the match trophy.
A huge confidence boost for the lads as a win was long overdue, plenty of positives and food for thought for coach Gaz Leach to work with moving forward.

Primary Cup this weekend and the chance for the lads to reach the Third Round!

Goals: Ben Smith (2), George Barnes (2), Kian Wild (2), Mathew Maguire and Noel Rigg.

Man of the Match: Jake Fallon
