Kay joins the club from Blackpool Wren Rovers where he played several games towards the end of last season. One of the best midfielders in Blackpool, Kay’s ability to pick out a pass from anywhere on the pitch will have Gate fans on the edge of their seats. The midfielder links back up with Joe Booth and Adam Sumner who he played with at AFC Fylde.
Matty started his career at Blackpool FC where at the age of 16 years and 32 days he made his debut breaking the club record as the youngest player every to play in a league match. Kay signed professional terms with Blackpool in June 2006 before Blackpool activated an option to extend his contract in May 2008.

After becoming a regular in Blackpool’s reserve team, Kay signed for Conference North side Fleetwood Town on loan. He made his debut against Stalybridge Celtic in a 2-1 defeat. Fleetwood extend Kay’s loan deal until 30th December when he returned to Blackpool.

When Matty’s time was up at Blackpool, he joined then Unibond side Burscough FC. Whilst at Burscough he was joined by Blackpool teammates Mark Halstead and Danny Mitchley on loan. His time didn’t last long at The Linnets when in November 2009 he was snapped up by newly promoted side AFC Fylde.

Whilst at Fylde, Matty built up a midfield link with Joe Booth. He joined the club under Mick Fuller making his debut against Warrington Town in the Unibond Presidents Cup scoring a goal in that game.

Matty left Fylde after limited playing time with four other centre midfielders at the club. He joined Bamber Bridge where he became club captain over a number of successful league campaigns just missing out on promotion.

On his newest signing Manager Andy Clarkson said: “I’m very pleased to have signed Matty Kay. I’ve known Matty from his time at AFC Fylde and I think he’ll be a great addition. Matty is a class footballer and fits perfectly into how we want to play this season. His passing range and football brain is of the highest quality and like Joe Booth he’ll be just as good for us of the pitch than on it.”
