Our juniors teams saw off the season with a great afternoon of cricket and awards presentations last Sunday. The day included a mixed age group 7 a-side competition which was closely fought all the way through. The weather played ball with beautiful sunshine and our volunteers managed to raise some much needed club funds on the barbecue and sweet stall. Thanks to all our organisers and helpers on the day and through the season.
With teams from Under 8s up to Under 17s this was the biggest juniors season at the club for many a year with more players, more teams and more matches than ever. Well done to all our sides who were always competitive (we won exactly half our matches), with special congratulations going to our league winning Under 10 and Under 12 teams.
The highlight of our awards ceremony was the presentation of the Matt Tobin Memorial award for emerging young players. Now in its second season, the award is given to young players breaking through and making a real impact in Senior League Cricket. With 12 different juniors playing league cricket at various points this season this was a tough contest, in the end the nomination went to both Connor Bower and Joe Nicol each of whom performed with distinction across our 3rd and 4th teams throughout the season. Congratulations!
Special thanks go to our Gold sponsors Asset Plus Mortgage Solutions for their ongoing commitment to the club and also to AJ Sports who backed up the good work they have been doing across Surrey Cricket with a kit contribution to the Matt Tobin Award presentation.
We wish all our players and their families a fantastic winter and we look forward to seeing you at indoor practice, either with the club or with our friends at JM Coaching. Onto even bigger and better things in 2024!
