David Staff

Richard Curtis22 Sep 2015 - 16:14

Stamford AFC and manager David Staff have today parted company following amicable talks about the future.

It was agreed that a change of direction was in the best interests of both parties.

Despite that thrilling FA Cup success against Leamington, the decision follows poor recent league results which have disappointed. A fresh approach is thought appropriate.

Staffy first joined Stamford on loan as a player from Rushden and Diamonds in 1998 and had enjoyed four spells as caretaker manager before he and Wayne Hatswell, then in charge, guided them from the NPL First Division South to the Premier League.

Hatswell moved on that summer and Staffy has since led the team into its third successive season at this highly demanding level.

Said club chairman Bob Feetham: "It is the right decision at this time but it has been enormously difficult to make. I have worked with several managers and none have matched Staffy's loyalty or integrity. All of us at the club wish him well for the future. He has done a real job for us on more than one occasion - and will no doubt do likewise in any future football venture."

First team management arrangements will be revealed well ahead of Sunday's 2nd qualifying round FA Cup tie at Coleshill.
